The Polish golden Autumn has brought this year an exceptionally abundant harvest of apples and honey. On Israel’s shuks that memory is brought out by the sight of tables bending under the weight of pomegranates which, thanks to this year’s aura in Eretz Israel are also plentiful in the more popular varieties, as well in some that are almost unknown to Poland. Also, when I browse the internet, the sight of pomegranates greets me at every Jewish website.
The more of these signs made a heartfelt wishes of a sweet and good New Year and inscribing in the Book of Life, the more joyful excitement, but at the same time fear what will this year bring us? Will it be as good as the previous one, or better?
The entry into the month of Tishrei is much more than just the start of the New Year. Our life cycle is being reborn and with it – our world, our life, Us. On this day, when asking for the grace of inscribing us in the Book of Life, we should remember who we are. On Rosh Hashanah we are the center of attention, so let us not forget just how much depends on us and how much we can give to the world from ourselves.
