Commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Liquidation of the Litzmannstadt Ghetto

We want to cordially invited to the official commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Liquidation of the Litzmannstadt Ghetto, which will be held in Łódź on 29 August 2019. This is a symbolic date – in August 1944 the last residents of the closed district were taken by the Nazi occupiers from the Łódź ghetto to Auschwitz-Birkenau. The ghetto was then liquidated.

Łódź, which was a very important centre of Jewish culture, science and trade before the war, remembers about its residents and about thousands of Jews from nearby towns and from many European cities who lost their life here or were taken to extermination camps.

This year will see the jubilee 75th anniversary of those tragic events. We would like to invite those who lived – Survivors from the Litzmannstadt Ghetto, their families all over the world, as well as Łódź residents and everyone else wishing to pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust.

The main celebrations will start on 29 August 2019 at 11.00am at the Jewish Cemetery in Łódź and at 12:30pm at the Radegast Station Memorial. Accompanying events will take place between 25 – 31 August.

The host of the commemorations are Mayor of the City of Łódź Hanna Zdanowska and the Jewish Community in Łódź.

The commemoration are being organised by the Marek Edelman Dialogue Centre in Łódź.
