UNION OF JEWISH RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES IN POLAND

The Union of Jewish Religious Communities in Poland was registered in 1993 as the legal successor to the Association of the Jewish Religious Faith, established in 1946. It operates under the Act of 20 February 1997 on the Relationship between the State and Jewish Religious Communities in the Republic of Poland, as well as the Internal Law of the Jewish Religious Community in the Republic of Poland. The Union is the legal successor to the pre-war Jewish religious communities.

The Union represents Jewish religious communities in proceedings concerning the restitution of pre-war property belonging to Jewish communities and other Jewish religious legal entities. It is responsible for supporting and coordinating religious and cultural life within Jewish communities throughout Poland, as well as carrying out charitable and social activities. The Union also operates a Social Welfare Department, whose work is supervised by the Social Welfare Commission. The Union consists of ten Jewish religious communities located in Warsaw, Wrocław, Kraków, Gdańsk, Poznań, Łódź, Szczecin, Katowice, Bielsko-Biała and Legnica.

Membership in the affiliated communities is open to adult persons of the Jewish faith, as well as persons of Jewish nationality or Jewish ancestry, who hold Polish citizenship, reside in the Republic of Poland, and are not members of any other religious denomination.

ASSOCIATION OF JEWISH COMBATANTS AND VICTIMS OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR

The Association brings together Polish Jews who fought against Nazi Germany or suffered persecution during the Second World War. Its mission is to provide assistance to those affected by the war and to preserve the memory of the struggle and martyrdom of Jews during the German occupation. The Association established the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Medal, awarded to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to Polish-Jewish dialogue.

CHILDREN OF THE HOLOCAUST ASSOCIATION IN POLAND

The Children of the Holocaust Association in Poland brings together Holocaust survivors who, because of their Jewish origin, were condemned to extermination by the German occupying forces. Its members include people who lived in ghettos, concentration camps or extermination camps during the war, as well as those who were forced to hide their identity. Membership is open to persons who were under the age of 13 at the outbreak of the Second World War or who were born during the war.

The Association is headquartered in Warsaw and has regional branches in Gdańsk, Łódź, Kraków and Wrocław. It currently has approximately 400 members.
